Can animals get the hiccups?…?

my cat was making a noise yesterday for a few minutes and it didnt sound like a hairball or anything and i was wondering if anyone knew if it could have been hiccups or if its even possible?

    I think they can. It is just a miscommunication between the brain and the epiglottis & diaphragm (the large muscle under the lungs). My cat seemed have them before.

    Yes. I have a miniature poodle and she gets the hiccups about once a week. I guess she swallows too fast.

    Yes animals can get hiccups.

    They generally don’t make noises when they do so though. You should probably keep an eye on your cat. Make sure its eating normal, going to the bathroom, playing as usual, etc. If anything has changed, you might want to take it to the vet.

    While it was probably nothing, you can never be too sure.

    Yes… my cat gets the hiccups occassionally when he goes under the covers. I just lift the covers up and give him some air. Opening a window also does the trick.

    Hi there…cats definitely can get hiccups.

    There is a muscle that is located between a cats lungs and their abdomen called the diaphragm. Hiccups happen when a diaphragm gets irritated and then spasms. The spasms push an irregular breath up and across the vocal box which produces the hiccup sound.
